Orbital ATK, headquartered in Dulles, Virginia, U.S. is a global leader in aerospace and defense technologies. The company designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation systems for customers around the world.
In 2014 Orbital-ATK evaluated a number of premier CNC manufacturers from around the world and found in Belotti S.p.A. a reliable high-tech supplier with significant overall price/performance ratio. The customer purchased a large-format 5-axis machining center model MDL 16048 to fulfill a long term contract with Boeing for the manufacture of advanced composites primary structures for the Boeing company’s 787 Dreamliner in the Freeport Composites Center in Clearfield, Utah.
The large 5-axis machining center is equipped with a 20 kW electrospindle, a dual 30-position automatic tool changers, wet cutting system and a Siemens 840D-s/ CNC control that allows the perfect milling/drilling of composite frames for the Boeing 787-9 center and aft fuselages. Orbital ATK chose Belotti as partner because it is synonymous of quality 5-axis machines, this is the reason why Orbital-ATK has Belotti 5-axis machines at three of their high-tech manufacturing facilities and keep an excellent working relationship with Belotti and Stiles Machinery.
Orbital ATK was purchased by Northrop Grumman in 2018.
